, the supreme court has notify the us it will take us gay marriage cases including california's ban on same-sex marriage unions. we got the word and our correspondent is with us on the phone now. shannon, what is the story? >>shannon: they decided to take up to different gay marriage cases. you mention the one from california, you may remember proposition eight. the voters passed a measure that allows only the recognition of one man, one woman as a "marriage." a federal court overturned that. that want on appeal to the supreme court and they decided they will weigh in on that fight. in addition there were eight cases on the diagnosis -- the docket on the defense of marriage act and a portion only recognizes marriage as between a man and a woman and has been challenged dozens of times. they agreed to take up a case dealing with defense of marriage act. two different cases but both going to the same issues. they are different on technical and legal points but the bottom line is the same and the court has told us it will hear two gay marriage cases and we expect the earliest to get on the cale

that cliff as of today. what now, you wonder? kevin mccarthy out of california, he's coming up 60 minutes from now. martha: back to this tragic story we talked about yesterday. there are new details in the murder-suicide case involving kansas city chief jovan belcher. the reports are that he spent an alcohol-fueled evening with another woman before he went home and got into that fatal argument with his girlfriend. a woman named whitney glass claims she had dinner with belcher and he spent the night in his car before headed home at approximately:00 in the morning. police say he got into a huge argument with his girlfriend and shot her 9 times. then he drove to arrowhead stadium, spoke to his coaches and took his own life. bill: belcher's family and teammates saying they are shocked and did not see such a brutal turn of event coming the way they did. >> maybe you can keep this separate and move on with maybe it guy you knew before saturday. i think there is maybe some comfort in that. but trying to figure it out and trying to connect those two to me is pretty confusing and just too difficul

everyone california. and that makes up a pretty mild afternoon from north to south. in fact there's a fire danger in southern california around san diego while we will enjoy more sunshine today as the highs continue to build and we get the north winds. as we fast forward into the we hours of wednesday morning, there's a storm system coming in from the north and this is going to spread cooler air, not a whole lot of moisture associated with it, and temperatures will drop significantly. so back to today with the warmer weather. 60s and 70s common around the bay. in fact even in fresno where usually it's pretty darn cool this time of year, low 60s. plenty of fog to start out. low #* 70s for los angeles. take a look at these numbers. five or seven degrees above average. 63 downtown today, one of the cooler locations. otherwise we are talking mid-60s in oakland, san jose 65, 64 livermore and 65 in santa rosa. down by the monterey bay there is plenty of cloud cover right now but by the afternoon talking warmup with 66 in salinas and 64 gilroy. tomorrow to start the work week, very little change.
